Try one of these chic colour trends of 2016
If you’re looking to enliven your living space this year, start with paint. A fresh coat in a new colour can completely transform a room. But with thousands of hues to choose from, it can be daunting to choose one that’ll make the desired impact. At Custom Decorating Services, we’re happy to help. Sure, we can bring in our professional Hamilton and Ancaster painters, but we also offer free colour consultations to our clients. Here are a few of our favourites that are on trend for 2016.
Lavenders, lilacs and plums
Purple in its various shades can be show-stopping or serene. The tints that are most en vogue right now are hushed by grey undertones. The darker purples like Sherwin Williams’ Quixotic Plum or Behr’s Charcoal Plum can make a bold statement in an entrance or dining room. Lighter purples like Benjamin Moore’s Enchanted or Spring Lilac can be unexpectedly glamorous when accompanied by espresso woods and gold metals.
Muted milky blues
Calm blues warmed by yellow undertones that are simultaneously muffled by varying degrees of grey are right on trend. These hues can be lovely in both traditional and contemporary spaces. Sherwin Williams’ Aleutian, Behr’s Stratus, or Benjamin Moore’s White Satin are all lovely picks that would be well suited to a living room or guest bedroom. Dark wood and white linens will elevate the colour to elegance. Alternatively, pair with sea grass or driftwood furniture for a beachy vibe.
The livelier aquamarines and teals of recent years are giving way to darker, more sophisticated variations. Deeper teals like Behr’s Galapagos, Sherwin Williams’ Tempe Star, or Benjamin Moore’s Blue Echo can be stately, calming or bold depending on how and where they’re used. Accompanied by dark woods and gilded frames, it becomes elegant and refined. Softened by pale wispy fabrics and wicker, it’s soothing and meditative. This colour can work magic in a master bedroom or living room.
The colour of the year for 2016 is white. Benjamin Moore’s Simply White and Sherwin Williams’ Alabaster were respectively selected as the paint hue to choose. And why not? White can make a space airy and light or cool and contemporary. When walls are white, furniture and art take centre stage. White can contour and contrast, heighten or uplift. White can be anything you want it to be.
